Extinct Arthropod

Lower Ordovician Palmetto Formation

Esmeralda County, Nevada

An extinct arthropod of unestablished zoological affinity, though it shows some similarities to an Isopod (primarily, the woodlice) and the peculiar trilobite Kleptothule, suborder Olenellina. Called scientifically, Esmeraldacaris richardsonae. From the lower Ordovician Palmetto Formation, Esmerialda County, Nevada. Photograph courtesy Dr. Ben Waggoner.
