Stove Pipe Wells Campground

This is a view eastward from a moving vehicle, along Highway 190, to the western entrance to Stove Pipe Wells Village--a resort that was established in 1926 by Bob Eichbaum, who had been a veteran of the Rhyolite and Skidoo mining camp speculation booms; in Death Valley tourism he saw true financial gold. Stovepipe Wells thus became Death Valley's first tourist facility.
